Quality control for plumbing fittings should be concrete. The aim is not to demand generic promises but to inspect the agreed model against a sample, drawing and packing specification.
Threads and interfaces
Use go/no-go gauges or the agreed mating part where appropriate. Confirm thread type and sealing method before testing a brass hex nipple or threaded union.
Seals and moving parts
For valves and unions, identify the seal compound and inspect assembly condition. Test a PVC-U true union ball valve with the intended pipe system rather than in isolation.
Packaging protects the finish
Confirm individual protection, carton dividers, quantity and label details. A correct component can still arrive unsellable if polished or coated surfaces rub in transit.
Practical inspection file
- Approved sample and drawing
- Material and size record
- Thread or socket verification method
- Assembly and leak-test plan
- Carton and label reference
